About Mike CK
Software engineer and infrastructure manager with a background in Electrical Engineering, based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Hi, I’m Mike Chumba
I’m a software engineer and infrastructure manager based in Nairobi, Kenya, with a background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. My journey into tech started with limited resources but unlimited determination.
The Beginning
In 2011, I saved every shilling I could to buy my first Nokia phone—not for calls, but to get online. That small device opened a gateway to programming and software engineering that completely captivated me.
Without access to a proper computer, I learned to code by writing programs on paper and running C code on a makeshift Android setup. I read every book and tutorial I could find, teaching myself through sheer persistence.
When I finally scraped together enough money for a laptop, I downloaded every development tool available and immediately started building: blogs, local business websites, mobile apps—anything I could create.
Professional Journey
Since landing my first web development role in late 2015, I’ve worked on projects ranging from small business websites to large-scale enterprise applications. I’ve built expertise across the full stack and infrastructure:
Languages & Frameworks: Python, Django, JavaScript, React, Vue.js, Node.js, React Native
Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle
Infrastructure & DevOps: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, Nginx, Caddy
Architecture: Microservices, Client-Server, SPA, PWA, Serverless
What Drives Me
I believe in building with what you have, where you are. My early experience coding on paper taught me that resourcefulness often matters more than resources.
When I’m not writing code or managing infrastructure, I’m teaching others about technology, writing about interesting engineering challenges, or exploring new tools and frameworks.
Current Work
Today, I work as a full-time software engineer and infrastructure manager. I specialize in:
- Building scalable web applications
- Designing and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- Teaching and mentoring developers
- Writing about practical software engineering
Let’s Connect
I’m always interested in challenging projects, collaboration opportunities, and connecting with fellow engineers.
