Apple released Beats Firmware Update 1B211 for Beats Studio Buds, fixing CVE-2025-20701, a Bluetooth issue Apple says could let an attacker within range listen through the microphone of a device that was not yet paired and was actively seeking pair requests.
Apple says the issue is in open-source code and that Apple software is among the affected projects. Its support note says firmware updates are delivered automatically while the headphones are paired with and in Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Norway restricts generative AI use for younger school pupils
TechRadar reported that Norway is moving to restrict generative AI use for younger school pupils from the next school year, with use under age 13 limited and cautious use allowed from age 13. The report says the government statement put basic reading, writing, and math skills first, and said younger pupils lack the knowledge, critical reflection, and self-regulation needed to use AI well.

Lithuanian startup launches open-source network to detect Shahed-type drones
A Lithuanian startup, Mainline, has launched an open-source drone detection system that uses volunteers’ Android smartphones as acoustic sensors, analyzing ambient sounds for low-frequency signatures characteristic of Shahed-type drone engines. When multiple nearby devices detect the same signal, the system can triangulate the object’s location. The initiative aims to recruit 10,000 active users across the Baltic states and Poland, and is discussing cooperation with mobile network operators to install sensors on telecommunications towers.

Reverse engineering the Qualcomm NPU compiler reveals MILP solver, hidden simulator, and automatic precision changes
A developer reverse-engineered Qualcomm’s NPU compiler (QAIRT) and discovered that it uses the HiGHS open-source solver to formulate VTCM placement as a Mixed Integer Linear Program, minimizing total data movement between on-chip memory and DDR. The compiler also contains a hidden analytical simulator called Hextimate that uses a roofline model to estimate compute and memory costs, and can automatically alter weight precision during placement to relieve memory pressure without informing the developer.
