U.S. Air Force Fires AIM-120 From Semi-Autonomous YFQ-44A

The U.S. Air Force fired an AIM-120 from a YFQ-44A Collaborative Combat Aircraft at a digital target over the Mojave Desert, advancing a test sequence that began with inert carriage and data-link evaluations. The service said a human operator exclusively controlled weapon release while the aircraft executed the employment sequence autonomously within pilot-defined parameters.

The Air Force describes the YFQ-44A as semi-autonomous and says its Collaborative Combat Aircraft program will retain human command and control rather than allow autonomous weapon employment.
